East Rutherford, NJ - February 26, 2007 - Broward County officials have approved the award of a retail concessions contract in Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) to a joint venture partnership that includes Hudson Group. The award is a seven-year contract to create a state-of-the-art news/gift and specialty retail program in Terminals 1 and 2 of the airport.
The joint venture, AMS South Florida, JV, is composed of Hudson Group and two local operators: Tarra Enterprises, LLC, a minority woman-owned business with retail concession operating experience in Atlanta-Hartsfield International and Palm Beach International Airports; and NewsLink Group, LLC, a company that operates newsstands in Miami International and Boston-Logan Airports.
According to Joseph DiDomizio, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Hudson Group: "This is a new market for everyone on our team, and we are all delighted to have been selected to serve the customers of FLL. As one of the preeminent airports in the state of Florida, Fort Lauderdale needs and deserves a top-notch retail concessions program."
According to the majority investor in the project, Tarra Pressey of Tarra Enterprises, "Our proposal included three fine newsstand brands, along with an array of some of the finest specialty retail shops in the industry. The package was designed to create maximum excitement, allure and a real 'sense of place' in the airport for years to come."
For the news/gift component of the program, the team will bring welcome variety to the airport by developing and operating three distinct newsstand brands in four spaces: CNN Newsstand Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood, Hudson News and NewsLink Ft. Lauderdale, each of which brings its own strengths to the mix:
The contract also includes four distinctive specialty retail concepts: Discovery Channel Airport Store, KidsWorks, Life is good and Sunglass Hut.
"After careful research into the terminals' usage and traffic patterns, as well as the preferences of passengers and employees, we put together an assortment of award-winning retail concepts with something to please everyone," said DiDomizio.
Following is a description of each of the specialty retail concepts:
Concluded DiDomizio: "With the experience and creativity of all the partners in this package, and our commitment to maintain a dynamic shopping environment, we expect that the travel shopping experience will be transformed; sales will dramatically increase; and customer satisfaction will continue to grow at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport."
